The Naha Birthing and Urban Health Clinic is a key infrastructure reform for the Ministry of Health Medical Services (MHMS). It will provide modern, high-quality birthing and primary health care facilities. This will reduce the pressure on the current obstetrics and other primary health care services currently provided by the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara. The NRH currently experiences up to 100 birth deliveries per week.
From early design coordination through to procurement and construction, we have prioritised offering alternative durable, low maintenance materials suited to the island’s tropical conditions, while maintaining regular engagement with the medical staff at the adjacent clinic who were the end users to ensure long-term operational suitability. We have embedded local participation into the project, hosting ongoing community meetings to keep stakeholders informed and involved, and providing direct employment and on the job training opportunities to local workers to strengthen community capability beyond project completion.
